German Medical team performs free surgery

Atibie, Feb. 24, GNA – A seven-member German plastic and orthopaedic medical team on a two-week free medical care visit, had performed 100 plastic and orthopaedic surgeries on 90 patients at the Kwahu Government Hospital at Atibie in the Kwahu South District. The team, from Interplast, a German health charitable organization, corrected deformities like disfiguration from injuries, cleft palate and tumours in children.

The programme was co-sponsored by Pro-Interplast, a Ghanaian non-governmental organisation, made up of Ghanaian philanthropists chaired by Mr Seth Adjei-Baah, Managing Director of the Shaba Enterprise Company Limited.

This is the second time that a German medical team from Interplast has undertaken such an operation in the country. A similar exercise took place at the same hospital in February last year. At a send-off reception for the Medical team at the Hospital on Friday, the Medical Superintendent In-charge, Dr Isaac Osabutey, commended the team for their voluntary health assistance to the large number of people in the area.

He appealed to Interplast to assist in equipping the Hospital’s theatre.

The District Director of Health Services, Dr Joseph Larbi Opare, urged them to affiliate the Hospital to Interplast in Germany for the needed medical assistance and training of medical personnel to solve the numerous health problems in the area. The Kwahu South District Chief Executive, Nana Onwuna Asante, urged Interplast to send regular medical teams to the country to help offer health care to the people.

The leader of the team, Dr Michael Shidelko, thanked the staff of the Hospital for the co-operation and assistance, which made their work successful and urged them to offer intensive care to all patients they operated upon for their early recovery.
