GCF urged to present their drafted policies to government

Mr P.V. Obeng, Senior Presidential Advisor, on Tuesday, tasked the Ghana Culture Forum (GCF) to present their drafted policies, initiatives and structural works to government.

Mr Obeng who is also the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) directed the forum to do so within 45 days for effective action and to help promote the Creative Art Sector.

He said working together as a team and discussing all delicate matters confronting the sector would help the sector go far and be recognized.

Mr Obeng made the remarks when he spoke on the theme: “Transforming the Culture and Creative Art Sector: Policies, Strategies and Initiatives” during the first anniversary of the GCF in Accra.

“Cultural is a central tool for development, and when much credence is given to it, it will help determine the total human intellectual capacity of the country”.

He urged stakeholders to develop long-term national development policies in the sector for sustainable growth.

Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, said the forum was a platform that sought to strengthen partnership and give voice to the people who make the creative industry.

Mrs Ofosu-Adjare said the Ministry would work closely with relevant institutions to develop the requisite human resources for the growth of the sector.

“The leadership of the Ministry are humbly offering ourselves to speak to these long standing issues and to do everything to streamline and strengthen the government machinery dedicated to tourism, culture and creative art”, she said.

Naa Professor John S. Nabila, President of the National House of Chiefs (NHC), said the forum had come in time to give stakeholders the opportunity to interact with policy makers on the direction that would collectively enhance the development of the sector.

He said traditional leaders and chiefs are integral to the Ghana’s culture and are needed to help foster and promote a cultural agenda.
