Mr. Moses Asagbo, Founder of Hanukkah Children’s Home, has called on the general public to support the education of physically challenged persons, in order to acquire skills and knowledge that would make them useful to society.
He observed that physically challenged persons are intelligent, since their minds are not affected or disabled, and need to be developed to become supportive to the society.
Mr Asagbo made the call when the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) Employees Union commissioned a 10,000-Ghana-cedi borehole at the Home at Baakoniaba near Sunyani, as part of the Union’s national 50 years celebration.
The Union also presented biscuits, sweets and assorted drinks, valued at about 1,500 Ghana Cedis to the Home.
Mr. Asagbo stated that he and his wife, Mrs. Marriet Asagbo, had the vision of establishing the Home with the aim of bring hope to the destitute and the hopeless in Ghana, and had their dream realized in 2006.
He said since they believed in developing children, especially the physically challenged, they also established, a school called Circle of Life Day Care, Primary and Junior High School (JHS) in 2008, to give quality education to children trained by graduate teachers.
Mr. Asagbo said they wish to expand the school to the senior high school level very soon, adding that children who are day students as well as those at the boarding house do not pay any fees as the home and the school is been funded and supported by Marriet Child Care, a Holland-based international Non-Government Organization(NGO).
He entreated parents who could not afford their children’s education, especially the physically challenged, to send them to Circle of Life School, to prepare them to become responsible adults in society.
Mr. Aagbo said the home currently has about 45 children, between the ages of six and 17, and appealed to the public to bring abandoned children to the place to be loved and catered for adding that children whose mothers died during delivery, could also be sent to the Home.
The orphanage home has a clinic with professional medical personnel and a gymnasium where the physically challenged do exercise.
He thanked the Union for the honour.
Mr. Alhassan Adams , national union chairman of the GCB employees, presenting the items, commended thecouple and workers of the Home as well as the school, for their kindness , commitment and sacrifices in saving the lives of the needy.
He called on other philanthropists to assist and support such noble dreams, to help change and build up children who are the country’s future leaders.
