Gbi Traditional Area demands return of looted royal regalia

Togbe Adzimah V, Chief of Gbi-Abansi on Tuesday reiterated that the return of the royal regalia looted at the Palace of Togbega Gabusu, Paramount Chief of Gbi could facilitate peace in the area.

Togbe Adzimah was speaking at a meeting with 13-member Kotokoli chiefs across the country, who paid homage to the chiefs and people of Hohoe following clashes between some citizens of the town and the Zongo community.

He appealed to the security agencies to approach their enforcement of law and order professionally.

The leader of the Kotokoli delegation, Wuro Salifu Haruna, Greater Accra Regional Chief, said the incident continued to give him sleepless nights and expressed the hope that normalcy would return to the area.

He eulogised the socio-cultural relations between Kotokoli’s and indigenes of Hohoe translating into cross-marriages.

Wuro Haruna said it would be suicidal if the situation degenerates.

Togbe Kasa III, Chief of Ho-Ahoe, who led the Kotokoli’s to Hohoe, asked the media to exercise decorum in their reportage, which was key in charting a roadmap to peace.

Dr. Margaret Kweku, Municipal Chief Executive assured the people that there are ground-breaking developments to ensure that sanity returns to the area whilst the perpetuators of the violent act are arrested and punished.

Some youth of the Zongo community last two weeks got infuriated when they found the exhumed body of the local chief Imam at the roadside at the outskirt of the town after his burial.

He was reportedly buried in defiance of a ban on the burial of members of the Zongo Community on Gbi land.

The incensed youth attacked and looted the paramount chief’s palace, which led to reprisal attacks.**
