GBF President Pledges Top-Tier Training for Rising Boxing Stars

The President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), Bernard Quartey, has vowed to provide robust and sustained training for three young boxing prodigies, after their standout performance at the 2025 African Youth Boxing Championship in Conakry, Guinea.

The trio, Gideon Pappoe, George Dowuona, and Mathias Ashitey, representing Ghana as part of the “Black Rockets” youth boxing team, each secured gold medals, bringing pride to the country and hope for the future of Ghanaian boxing.

Following their victory, Mr. Quartey reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to nurturing young talent and preparing them for the senior national team, the Black Bombers.

“We are going to make sure that they train very hard up to the national level,” he said. “We believe in their potential and will do everything in our power to support their growth into top-level athletes.”

Describing the trio’s triumph as a major milestone, Quartey stressed that the journey doesn’t end with their recent success. The GBF, he said, is investing in **long-term athlete development**, ensuring that these champions are not only well-prepared for local and regional bouts, but also for global competitions.

“This is just the beginning,” he added. “The goal is to have them represent Ghana on the world stage, and bring home even more glory.”

The Federation’s renewed focus on youth development signals a broader strategy to revitalize Ghana’s boxing legacy. With the right infrastructure, mentorship, and international exposure, officials say, Ghana’s next generation of boxers could be among the sport’s elite.

The story of the Black Rockets is quickly becoming one of hope, determination, and rising ambition, and for many young boxers across the country, it’s proof that national dreams can start with a single punch.
