The deputy Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation has been ordered to resign or get sacked by the board of directors of the company after publicly criticizing the leadership of his under-fire boss Eva Lokko.
Ken Amankwah in a six page document to the board which was published by the Statesman newspaper severely criticized Miss Lokko accusing her of ”stifling initiative” and ”acting as though she owns GBC.”
The deputy director general?s criticism added to the mounting pressure on Miss Lokko to quit after workers marched to protest against her leadership. JoyNews gathered the board of GBC was unhappy with Mr. Amankwah?s comments because they believe it undermines the authority of Miss Lokko.
Sources close to the deputy director general confirmed to JoyNews that he has been given the ultimatum to quit but said he is unlikely to budge.
Instead, Amankwah plans to seek the intervention of the National Media Commission, which is constitutionally mandated to intervene in matters involving the state-owned media.
The NMC confirmed it had received information on the order to Amankwah to resign but has not been able to confirm it independently.
The board of directors of GBC has been engaged in several meetings since the impasse broke out trying to find a solution to the problem. Miss Lokko has denied all the allegations of unprofessional attitudes, incompetence and insensitivity and has promised to work with the workers in a reconciliatory measure.
But the workers say they are not taking anything for granted and would study the situation before taking a decision on their next line of action.
