Gay debate: Presby Moderator wants Prez to declare stance

Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Professor Emmanuel Martey says the leadership of the country should rise and state its position on homosexuality.

Prof. Martey specifically wants “President John Mahama to come out and state whether Ghana is accommodating homosexuality”.

According to him, the current president’s predecessors (John Kufuor and John Mills) while in office declared their position “against an abomination”.

Speaking at the official commissioning of the Trinity Community Hospital at Zenu in Ashaiman on Saturday, Prof Martey said the nation must not entertain discussions in the media on the issue of homosexuality. “Let us not behave like animals,” he said

The Trinity Community Hospital is borne out of a partnership between the Presbyterian church of Ghana and The Community Group of Hospitals, a private health care service provider. This is the first time in the history of the Presbyterian Church that such a partnership with the private sector has been entered into.

The Community Group of Hospitals currently runs two other hospitals in Ashongman, Accra and Oda in the eastern region.

The ultra modern Hospital has facilities such as OPD, 24hr in and out patient, 24hr laboratory and theatre, ante and post natal. It also operates. It also operates fertility clinics, dental care, ambulance service family counseling, obstetrics and gynecology departments for clients.
