STATEMENT OF THE NATIONAL UNION OF GHANA STUDENTS (NUGS)
ON THE STRIKE OF THE GHANA ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATORS
GAUA Must Go to the Negotiation Table
The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) wants to express its unhappiness with the strike of the Ghana Association of University Administrators on whose lap issues of academic and general documentation lies.
The Union is more worried because the coming of the GAUA strike means that; students will not be able to access General transcripts, letter of attestation, recommendation letters, and other documents without which students life will be challenging.
It is unfortunate that when students are getting ready to sit for their papers in the month of May, 2012 the administrators who also double as those in charge of the examination papers have decided to go on strike.
It must be stated that, the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) shares in the sentiment of GAUA in their bid to get migrated to the Single Spine Salary Structure by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
However, we must not forsake negotiation in favor of strike which is damaging to general academic works.
• NUGS is by this statement calling the GAUA National Executives to please resort to the negotiation table with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commissioner for sanity to prevail on our campuses.
• We are also calling on the Vice Chancellor Ghana (VCG) to as a matter of fact help the administrators in their call for them to be migrated on the SSSS since they form huge part of the university structure.
• Again, NUGS wants to appeal to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to call the National Executives of GAUA to the negotiation in order for them to be humbly migrated since they deserved it.
The Union is not happy with the way groups always resort to strike/demonstration especially when it comes the educational system instead of negotiation.
Let us do the right thing. It is worth it.
