The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has declared a nationwide strike over unresolved issues relating to the migration of its members onto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS).
Mr. Solomon Panford, President of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) branch of the Association said they had been forced to adopt this line of action because of the lack of urgency to place them on the right scale.
He pointed out that their meetings with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Finance and Education Ministers, as well as Vice President John Mahama, over the past six months to get the salary disparities addressed had failed to yield any positive results.
Mr. Panford made it clear that the Association could no longer accept the unfair treatment, and that they could not be blamed for embarking on the strike action.
The withdrawal of services by members of the association could cripple the administration of the public universities.
It is likely to put on hold this year’s graduation, admissions, the signing of cheques and other activities of the universities.**
