Gas pipeline repairs completed; load shedding may soon end

Repair works on the damaged West African Gas pipeline which has resulted in the current load shedding exercise in the country, have reportedly been completed.

Engineers are expected to flush out residual material in the pipeline over the next few days.

Deputy Energy Minister, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini who disclosed this to Joy News, expects supply of compressed gas to the Asogli Sunon Plant to resume by the end of this month.

“I am told by the end of October, latest by middle of November, gas supplies to all turbine plants will resume,” he hinted.

The move will hopefully end the load shedding exercise.

The deputy minister admitted that the owners of the Asogli Power plant were owed an amount of money but said government was working hard to pay up the subsidy due to ECG, to offset the debt.

Inusah Fuseini who also responded to consumer concerns over alleged faulty prepaid meters, said his Ministry had instructed the Northern Electricity Distribution Company, (NEDCO,) to suspend installation immediately until all complaints are adequately addressed.

Meanwhile the Principal Community Relations Officer of VRA-NEDCO, Alhaji Erzuah Siam has confirmed to Joy News it his outfit has halted further distribution of the new prepaid meters.

He however noted they will go ahead to install the meters for consumers who voluntarily request for them.
