Gas explosion: Let’s take a second look at the citing of gas stations – Akufo-Addo

The president-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said it was about time Ghanaians reviewed the practice of citing gas stations within communities in the country.

A deadly gas explosion which occurred from within a gas station, Thursday December 22, evening near the International Trade Fair Centre at La in Accra claimed over five lives, leaving several others injured.

It is however unknown, what sparked the dramatic explosion which occurred around 5pm Thursday evening.

Eyewitnesses told GHOne News that the fire extended to parts of the Trade Fair Center.

Commenting on the incident, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo extended his condolences to the families of the dead and injured saying, “I have learnt with sadness of the news of a gas explosion near the Trade Fair Centre, resulting in the loss of 6 lives, and injuries to many others.

My deepest condolences to the families of the bereaved, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

He however said safety regulations would have to be adhered to judiciously going forward.

“It is about time we take a second look at the citing of gas stations in our country, and ensure the strict enforcement of, and adherence to safety regulations, so as to forestall the occurrence of any more of such avoidable incidents.”
