Gardner jailed eight years for defilement

Accra, April 6, GNA – Samuel Nana Kojo a 29-year-old gardner was on Wednesday sentenced to eight years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for defiling a 13-year girl.

This was after the court presided over by Mrs Georgina Mensah-Datsa had found him guilty and convicted him accordingly. Kojo had pleaded not guilty to defilement. In his defence, Kojo told the court that he met the victim and proposed to her and wanted to have sex with her but the victim absconded, and denied ever defiling the victim. Police Inspector I. A.A. Ahor told the court that the accused lived at Dome in Accra and works at Cantonments where the victim resides.

He said on February 24, this year, the victim was sent to purchase dry cell batteries.

On her return, Kojo saw the victim and dragged her into an uncompleted house and defiled her. The victim kept the ordeal to herself but when she was quizzed by a witness in the matter she let the cat out of the bag.
