Gangsters Strike Again In Kumasi

For the second day running, gangsters have held residents of parts of Kumasi to ransom. On Tuesday, an unidentified group of gangsters unleashed terror on residents of Ashanti New Town, a suburb of Kumasi.

And yesterday, just when the regional police commander, ACP Ofosu Mensah Gyeabour was briefing the media on measures taken to control the gangsters, word came that another group had struck at Old Tafo and was harassing residents and disturbing commercial activities. Officers of the Buffalo Unit of the Police Service were immediately dispatched to control the situation.

As part of measures to contain the gangsters, patrols in the city have been intensified. Mr. Gyeabour expressed the hope that the physical deployment of the security officers would help bring the situation under control. He described as unfortunate the decision by some people to take the law into their own h ands. The Defence minister, Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor, who flew into the metropolis to study the situation, called on the security agencies to dismantle all terror groups in the metropolis
