Galamsey Saga: Arrest Kofi Boakye, Alexander Ackon – IGP urged

Civil Society Organisation, Save Ghana Foundation is calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante Appeatu, to arrest the former Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Nathan Kofi Boakye and the former Ashanti Regional Minister, Alexander Ackon.

The organisation alleges, the two have over the years rendered unflinching support to Chinese ‘galamsey queen’, Asia Huang.

A Criminal High Court in Accra Tuesday remanded into Prison custody the 31-year-old Chinese woman suspected to be one of Ghana’s most notorious illegal miner and her three other Chinese accomplices.

She was nabbed by the Ghana Immigration Service this week after she made headlines for allegedly escaping several arrests in her illegal mining operations.

However Chief Executive Officer for Save Ghana Foundation, Kofi Adjei in an interview with Abusua FM’s Nana Ama Annor urged the IGP to arrest the two for supporting the illegal mining kingpin.

Kofi Adjei alleges, “the former Regional Minister, Alexander Ackon heavily supported the Chinese escape arrests several times…this lady will be arrested and the next thing is the former minister will jump to her rescue.”

“As for DCOP Kofi Boakye, the least said about him, the better. He provided this woman with twenty hour security and which is the reason why she had the audacity to be expanding her illegal mining to other parts of the country.”

”The IGP must immediately arrest these two men and prosecute them immediately.”
