Galamsey operator jailed 10 years for stealing

Samuel Addae, a 21-year-old illegal miner (Galamsey operator), has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for stealing four mobile phones valued at GHc315.

He was convicted on his own plea.

Prosecuting Police Detective, Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the Court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant, Patience Ackah, is a trader at Dompim near Tarkwa while the convict lives at Topp, a suburb of Nsuaem.

He said on August 31, the convict unlawfully used a cutter and a screw driver and broke into the complainant’s boutique shop at Dompim and stole the mobile phones.

Detective Amponsah said while the theft was ongoing, the police had a tip-off and on arrival they found Addae hiding in the boutique and arrested him.

He said after investigations, the convict was charged with the offence.
