Galamsey operator in remand for defilement

Tarkwa, Dec. 8, GNA – A 21 year-old small scale miner (Galamsey operator), Kwame Ackom of Ankobra a suburb of Prestea has been remanded in police custody by a Tarkwa Circuit Court for defiling an 11 year-old girl. He pleaded not guilty and will reappear on December 13. Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the Judge, Mr Samuel Obeng Diawu that the complainant Afua Fremah, a trader at Manso Amanfi is a relation to the victim who is a class four pupil. She said at around 0015 hours on September 15, the victim was in a bathroom when Ackom entered the place and rubbed his manhood with soap and asked her to squat.

Ackom covered her mouth with his hand and had sexual intercourse with her. Inspector Tawiah said during the act the victim who could not contain the pain screamed in the bathroom when a witness rushed to the scene and met Ackom and the victim naked. The Prosecutor said the matter was reported to the Police and a medical form was issued to the complainant to send the victim to hospital for examination. Dr Mahamadu Mbiniwaya, Medical Superintendent of Prestea Government Hospital who examined the victim certified that she has been defiled. When Ackom was arrested, he admitted the offence and pleaded for mercy.
