Galamsey Operator buried alive

Daman (W/R) July 25, GNA- A 29-year old galamsey operator, Akwasi Appiah was buried alive when he was trapped in a pit which caved in at Tumantu near Daman in the Wassa West District of the Western Region.

Narrating the incident to Ghana News Agency, Mr Kwaku Mfum, father of the deceased said Appiah left home on July 10 for galamsey expedition.

He said for four days Appiah did not return and this prompted some co- tenants in the house where Appiah was residing and some members of the community to mount a search.

Mr. Mfum said the searchers saw sandals and dresses of Appiah near an old pit and looking into it, Appiah was seen with his body almost covered with sand.

Appiah’s body was retrieved and deposited at Government Hospital Tarkwa for autopsy.

When GNA contacted Daman Police, Chief Inspector Joseph Adade Kofi Poku, the Station Officer confirmed the story.
