GAF correct designations

Accra, Jan 17, GNA – The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Thursday asked the media, as well as the public to attribute the correct designation required by the GAF to retired military personnel.

A statement issued by the Public relations Directorate of the GAF said the abbreviation “rtd” should be placed after the name of an individual military officer and the prefix “ex” should come before the rank of retired non-commissioned officer.

It said only commissioned military officers who were honourably retired from the service were permitted to use their ranks in civil life and were entitled to the abbreviation “rtd”.

All other non-commissioned officers are not rpt are not allowed to use the abbreviation “rtd” but the prefix “ex”. It should read, Major Kofi Mensah (rtd) and not Major (rtd) Kofi Mensah, and for the other ranks, Ex-Corporal Yaw Nti and not Cpl (rtd) Yaw Nti. The statement requested that the military convention be adhered to.
