GaDangme Council honours illustrious sons

The GaDangme Council on Wednesday honoured 13 illustrious citizens for their immense contribution to the development of the GaDangme community.

The awardees included Dr K.B Asante, the late Justice Daniel Francis Annan, Professor Ablade Glover, Nii Kpobi Tettey Tsuru III, Mrs Selina Taylor and Mrs Florence Sai.

Others included Mrs Comfort Melody Slater, Mrs Elsie Sowah, the late Mr. Paul Christian N. Adumuah, Nene Klagbodzor Animle VI, Mr. Kwatei Nee-Owoo, Mrs Edith Saki-Quartey and Mr. J.S. Addo.

Nene Prof Abanam Akpanglo- Nartey, President of the Council, speaking at the maiden awards night noted, “a country or organisation that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for.”

He said the awards, which would be held annually would recognize prominent citizens who had contributed to the GaDangme community and Ghana at large.

He said the Council was formed to foster consciousness among GaDangmes of their common ancestry and to be the standard-bearer of GaDangme unity as an integral part of the national unity.

Prof Akpanglo- Nartey said the Council advises, assists and collaborates with GaDangme chiefs and the people to promote their heritage as a unique and essential part of the Ghanaian culture.

“To impress upon GaDangme youth the spirit of oneness, self help and volunteerism and awareness on GaDangme values, history and culture,” he added.

Dr K.B. Asante in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, expressed gratitude to the organisers for recognizing their efforts towards the development of the GaDangme community.

He called on GaDangmes’ to contribute to the development of cultural heritage of the people.

GaDangme Council is a non-political, non-religious, non-governmental institution dedicated to the strengthening the unity of the GaDangme people and to develop, promote and preserve their welfare and heritage.**
