Gabusu calls for support for government

Hohoe, Jan 1, GNA- Togbega Gabusu VI, President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, on Thursday called on Ghanaians to cultivate the spirit of oneness to enhance the rapid development of the country. In a New Year message Togbega Gabusu, the Paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area, urged Ghanaians to do away with party affiliations and support the government.

“The second term of office of the President as Chairman of ECOWAS should be cherished by all. Let the peace we enjoy in the country be extended to all member states during the year”, he said. Togbega Gabusu urged traditional authorities in the region to learn to reconcile, adding that the Regional House of Chiefs is doing all it could to help settle the over 120 chieftaincy and land disputes in the region.

“No misunderstanding should lead to the destruction of life and property this year, let us all live in peace and harmony”, he said. Togbega Gabusu, however, urged the government to provide the Regional House of Chiefs with Counsel to enable its Judicial Committee to settle cases before it on time.

He called for the review of the Chieftaincy Act.

He said because of the Act, only 15 out of the over 118 traditional Paramount Chiefs in the Volta Region were recognised as permanent members of the Regional House of Chiefs.

Togbega Gabusu, who is also a member of the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) asked Ghanaians to show compassion to HIV/AIDS victims to stem the spread of the disease.

“Accept them, do away with stigmatisation and show that you love them,” he said.
