Ga District overcomes hitches marring photo-taking exercise

Accra, June 23, GNA – Polling stations in the Ga District that experienced initial hitches in the voters’ photo-taking exercise by the Electoral Commission (EC) as a result of widespread shortage of materials, have received the necessary logistics to meet the Friday deadline.

A survey carried out by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Ashongman; Dome, Taifa and Kwabenya revealed that most polling stations had resumed brisk business as anxious voters were in queues waiting for their turn to have their photographs taken to complete formalities for the Voter Identification Card.

Mr Ebenezer Asare Kusi, a Registration Official at the ARS Church Point One Polling Station, told the GNA that he was optimistic that the Station would complete the exercise before Friday.

“We have 1,479 eligible voters in our records. As at now we have less than 250 people left to cover.

“The rate at which people are turning up to complete the registration exercise is encouraging and we hope by Thursday it will be over.”

Mr Kusi said shortage of films last Friday brought the process to a halt.

The common complaints the GNA received at the polling stations it visited were misplacement of the slips issued to voters to facilitate the exercise and wrong identification of sexes. These anomalies had led to undue delays in the process.
