Furore Over Ho Central Congress

…NPP SCRIBES IN TUG-OF-WAR…BUT EC CAN’T NULLIFY RESULTS
Nearly three weeks after the Ho Central Constituency of the NPP held a successful congress and took over affairs of the party, Chronicle intelligence has gathered that there is still bad blood between the acting Volta Regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Kenwuud Nuworsu and his secretary, Mr. Kwame Attah,

The standoff, reminiscent of the ex-president Rawlings and Dr. Obed Asamoah’s cold war relationship in the NDC, is seen as a threat to the ruling party that needs urgent attention.

In a letter dated April 17, this year and signed by Mr. Nuworsu, which the paper intercepted, Mr. Attah (secretary) had been virtually directed to explain why he should not be disciplined for convening an unlawful congress.

When the GHANAIAN CHRONICLE contacted the secretary, he confirmed receipt of the said letter but was quick to add that he acted constitutionally, adding that the congress had to come on at a time it did to save the party from splitting.

The EC on the other hand maintained that they were right in supervising the congress, Mr. Robert Atamah, District Electoral Officer, said he had forwarded the results to Accra, and until the NPP headquarters declares otherwise, the commission would not be compelled under any circumstances to nullify it.

Meanwhile, the newly elected constituency executives, over whom the brouhaha started, have showcased their vision for the 2004 presidential and parliamentary elections.
