Funeral Budget: President Mills will resurrect if…

President John Evans Atta Mills will come out of the grave the next day to chide government officials if buried in a $75,000 casket. This is according to the Chairman of the Funeral Planning Committee of the late president.

Mr. Kofi Totobi Quakyi was answering questions in relation to the budget allocation for the death of the president at a press briefing held at the International Conference Centre in Accra.

He said media reports of a profligate funeral ceremony are untrue and a figment of the imagination of some cynical minds who are bent on creating confusion over the ceremony.

Mr. Totobi Quakyi said “President Mills will turn in his grave” if a lavish funeral ceremony is staged in his honour or buried in an expensive casket.

He denied rumours that the Committee has budgeted an amount of $30 million dollars for the funeral, saying, the committee will make the public aware of any amount spent on the ceremony.

Mr. Totobi Quakyi stated that knowing the modest nature of the late president who died on July 24, an extravagant funeral ceremony will only sully his memory.

Touching on other aspects of the ceremony, Mr. Totobi Quakyi said a memorial and thanksgiving service will be organized by the family of the late president in Cape Coast on Sunday.**
