Kumasi, Sept 09, GNA – The government has released 4.1 billion cedis to help end the water problem residents of Buokrom and Pankrono areas in Kumasi have been grappling with over the years.
As a result, work had started on a 50,000-gallon capacity underground tank, an overhead tank with a capacity for 100,000 gallons and a booster pump at Buokrom.
At Pankrono an underground reinforced concrete reservoir with a capacity for 50,000 gallons and a booster pump are being installed. Mr Samuel G.O. Lamptey, acting managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), said on Thursday during a tour of the projects that the works are scheduled to be completed within three months.
The acting Managing Director praised the Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia, Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor and the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, for the role they played in getting the projects started.
He spoke of plans to increase the present 18 million gallons of water daily by the Barekese Dam to 24 million gallons and said the company was engaged in talks for funding.
