Fund supports 100 needy University students

Kumasi, April 15, GNA – The S.T. Nankani Scholarship Fund has within the past nine years supported 100 academically brilliant but needy students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with a total of about GH¢2.5 million. Dr Ben Hagan, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Fund, said the beneficiaries were carefully selected through interviews from the Colleges of Engineering, Health Sciences, Agriculture and Natural Resources.

The monies are given out on an annual basis and beneficiary students received between GH¢200.00 to GH¢300.00. He said this, when presenting cheque for a total of GH¢2,600.00 to 10 beneficiaries of the Fund at a ceremony at the University’s Council Chamber on Friday.

Dr Hagan said they were happy that this was helping to bring some relief to students from poor homes who otherwise would have struggled to take care of their educational needs. The Fund was instituted by the Nankani and Hagan Company Limited as part of its social responsibility.

Dr Hagan repeated their determination to continue to support the promotion of education. Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice-Chancellor of the KNUST, thanked the Fund for the support and urged the beneficiaries to be motivated by the gesture to work hard to achieve academic excellence. 17 April 11
