Fund For Street Children Advocated

Accra,(Greater Accra) 24 Oct. Professor Jacob B. Quartey-Papafio, Greater- Accra regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the formation of a trust fund in aid of street children. “I humbly appeal to the well-meaning people of society in collaboration with government to form a trust fund to support the Sport and Cultural Academy for Street Children (SCASC) in a wider dimension,” he said Prof Quartey-Papafio made this appeal at a Gospel Music fund- raising ceremony in aid of a rehabilitation project of the academy. The project include the renovation of wooden structures used as classrooms and acquiring such facilities that would make academic work and other activities in the school more effective. Prof Quartey-Papafio, who is also a senior lecturer at the University of Ghana medical school pointed out that the need to support “these street children cannot be over emphasised.” He added that investment in street kids is worthwhile since some celebraties in the country and abroad were one time street children who had “the needed push to bring them into the limelight.” The NDC executive member suggested that social committees be formed in various communities to establish trustn funds for the academy.
