Fulanis shoot 2 dead at Tarkrowasi

Two people have been shot dead by suspected Fulani herdsmen at Tarkrowasi in the Sekyere Afram Plains constituency, near Drobonso, the district capital, ClassFMonline.com has learnt.

The New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Joseph Owusu, confirmed the incident to Class News Saturday March 19.

According to him, he has not received any official statement from the police, but was informed by the villagers who drove on motorbikes to report the killings to him.

Mr Owusu, however, confirmed the police from Drobonso had been dispatched to Tarkrowasi to investigate the matter.

Attempts to reach the police for further information proved futile.

The herders, who seasonally migrate to the country with their cattle in search of pasture, have been accused of several atrocities such as the destruction of property and farmlands belonging to indigenes, who are mostly farmers. The nomads have also been accused of robbery and rape.

Indigenes of Agogo, where these Fulanis are concentrated, and the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC), have asked the nomads to leave their land.
