Fulani herdsman commits suicide

Hohoe, May 6, GNA- Fulani Gariba, 35, a herdsman at Fulanikope near Golokwati in the Hohoe District has committed suicide by shooting himself in the throat for fear of being incarcerated for the loss of a number of cattle.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwabena Antwi-Boasiako, Hohoe District Police Commander who briefed the GNA about the incident said Gariba committed the crime with a single barrel gun on April 26, this year in a bush behind his house.

He said Gariba was found lying on his back, with the gun by his side when the Police went to the scene of the crime.

DSP Antwi-Boasiako said the Police are investigating what necessitated the suicide with snippets of information pointing to the alleged loss of some cattle from his herd belonging to his master. He said the body of the deceased has since been buried after autopsy.

In a related development, Faith Akoto, 30, a farmer at Logba-Tota met his death when he fell from a pear tree on which he was harvesting fruits for the market. Akoto, died a day later, when relations were conveying him to the Hohoe District Hospital after his condition had deteriorated.
