Fufuo initiates school and market projects

Fufuo (Ash), Jan. 1, GNA- Residents of Fufuo near Barekese in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District in Ashanti on Sunday realized GH=A22,300 at a fund-raising harvest in aid of the construction of a market and the renovation of the local basic school.

Mr Richmond Nti, Unit Committee Chairman, said the two-year community-initiated projects estimated at over GH=A265,000 were being financed through voluntary contributions and donations from institutions and organizations.

He said the projects were the community’s priority socio-economic needs and called on the District Assembly and non-residents citizens to donate generously towards its early completion. Mr Beneto Owusu-Bio, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, lauded the self-help spirit of the community and donated GH=A21,000 in support of the projects.

He said this year’s national budget was primarily aimed at providing more infrastructure and other facilities to improve the people’s living standards and gave the assurance that much attention would be focused on the rural communities. Mr Owusu-Bio noted that the government has performed creditably in its socio-economic agenda especially in the rural areas and said communities, which initiated self-help programmes would benefit more from its rural-centred development agenda. Mr Maxwell Nsiah-Baffour, assembly member for the area, was not happy about the slow pace of the construction of the eight-kilometre Barekese-Fufuo road and called on the contractor to speed up work. Mr Godfried Nti, a member of the Board of Directors of the Nwabiagya Rural Bank who presided said the bank has so far spent over GH=A21,700 on the construction of a KVIP latrine for the community.
