Fufuo (Ash), April 4, GNA – The chiefs and people of Fufuo, near Barekese in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district, have initiated a 400 million-cedi water project with the hope that its realisation would help reduce prevalent water-borne diseases in the communities. So far, the community has spent 24.3 million cedis of voluntary contributions and special levies on the project.
Speaking at a fund-raising harvest at Fufuo on Sunday in aid of the water project, Mr Godfried Nti, the assemblyman, said the community had also spent 100 million cedis on the construction of a block of three classrooms and a library, currently under construction at an estimated cost of 350 million cedis.
Mr Nti identified the lack of adequate toilet facilities and poor road network as major problems facing the community and appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Transport to tar a 10-kilometre Fufuo-Barekese road.
Mr Richmond Nti, the unit committee chairman, deplored the apathy of some of the citizens towards the development of the area and called on them to rekindle their self-help spirit.
Nana Owusu Ansah, chief of Fufuo, appealed to the people to pay their levies promptly to enable the projects to be completed on time. More than 11 million cedis was realised at the ceremony.
