The price of petroleum products in Ghana is expected to go up significantly from Monday, September 1, 2025, according to the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC). A pricing outlook report sighted by Joy Business shows increases across petrol, diesel, and LPG.
Petrol could rise between 3.86% and 5.40% per litre, pushing the pump price to around GH₵13.67. Diesel is also projected to go up by 3.39%, which may translate to GH₵14.35 per litre. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is expected to see a jump of up to 4.57% per kilogram.
The chamber attributes the hike largely to the depreciation of the cedi against the US dollar over the past month. The local currency slipped from GH₵10.71 to GH₵11.20 per dollar—a 3.98% fall, described as the steepest since the beginning of 2025.
Interestingly, COMAC noted that prices of crude oil products on the international market have been trending downward—petrol by 0.45%, diesel by 3.73%, and LPG by 1.73%. However, these reductions have been outweighed by the weakening cedi and persistent supply challenges.
Some industry players also point to the recently introduced GH₵1 levy on petroleum products as a factor deepening the impact on pump prices.
The chamber explained that shortages in petrol supply earlier this month forced several oil marketing companies to adjust prices mid-August, instead of holding them steady as expected.
With the new pricing window set to open, consumers will brace for further increases despite falling global benchmarks.
