Friends of Lordina Mahama inaugurated

“Friends of Lordina Mahama (FLM,)” a women’s group within the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC,) has been inaugurated in Cape Coast to extol the ideals and visions of the First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Mahama.

The group, which will follow the philanthropic tendencies of the first lady, will also mobilise women to financially empower them to cater for their families.

Inaugurating the Central and Western Regional wings of the group in Cape Coast on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 the National President of (FLM), Mrs. Mabel “Maanoma” Quayson, explained that the group was not formed to enrich themselves but to reach out to the needy and less privileged in society.

According to her, the plight of orphans and the needy, especially in the areas of education and health, would be their priority to help put smiles on their faces.

“We will also be responsible for mobilising widows and extend a helping hand to women in acquiring gainful employment to ease their burden,” she added.

Mrs. Quayson who pointed out that their decision to emulate the footsteps of the first lady was the fact she was doing a good job in strengthening the health sector.

“We intend to assist girls who drop out of school and those who cannot continue their education after Junior and Senior High School to learn a trade to reduce the incidence of teenage pregnancy in the country.”

She hinted that the group would be formed in other regions of the country to enable women enjoy the privileges that come with it.

The deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Madam Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, charged members of the group to emulate the humility and kind heartedness of the first lady to be able to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged.

The group later presented 20 bags of rice, oil, clothes and soaps among other items to inmates of the Ankaful Leprosarium.
