Fresh students vows

Kasoa, Oct. 23, GNA -Fresh students admitted to the Ngleshie Amanfrom Secondary School (NASEC) at a ceremony on Friday, vowed not to allow themselves to be swayed by any means to indulge in cheating during examination.

They also pledged to concentrate on their studies and refrain from pre-marital sex, sexual harassment, riot, character assassination, disrespect to authority, assault on teaching staff and their dependants as well as drug abuse.

Pastor George Attionu , of the International Centre Gospel Church, who officiated at the vowing ceremony on behalf of the school authorities at Amanfrom near Kasoa, prayed that the Lord make the vows manifest and the ceremony to begin a turning point where donors, companies and non-governmental organizations would come and assist build the school, which lacks many facilities.

The annual ceremony was organized by the Guidance and Counselling Department of the School.

Mrs Elizabeth Adjei, Assistant Headmistress, said for over the past years, the school earned bad name for admitting students rejected by other secondary school because they scored low grade in examinations and happily these were groomed to the extent that many are now in the Universities.

Mr Adjei said as a result of hard work by the staff the NASEC was placed 93rd in SSS Examinations participated by 487 Secondary Institutions in the country, adding that in the case of Greater Accra Region, NASEC took the 15th position.

Mr Joseph Ashon-Cudjiw, Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the school, who presided, said there is the need for a research into leakage of examination papers and increasing failures, which might be as a result of lack of parental supervision, inability by parents to provide wards with requisite textbooks or students not knowing the art of studying.

Mr. Ashon-Cudjiw, therefore said a well-organized research would lead to the causes of, and solutions to the problems.
