Accra, Dec. 1, GNA – A French Navy Ship “LV Lavallee” has completed a six-day routine call to Ghana as part of her regular missions along the West African coast, a statement from the French Embassy said in Accra on Wednesday.
The statement said the visit of the ship to the Takoradi port from November 14-19 was also to reinforce the existing ties between the French and Ghanaian navies.
The ship and the Ghana Armed Forces would participate in “Benin 2004” in the framework of the Reinforcement of African Peacekeeping Capabilities (RECAMP) taking place in Benin from November 29 to December 10.
The ship under the command of Lieutenant Commander Francois Drouet has a staff of seven officers, 59 petty officers and a 25-member crew. The main role of the ship is anti-submarine warfare in coastal areas. The ship may also perform missions such as support to strategic submarine forces, surveillance and defence of maritime approaches, public service, overseas deployment and training on sea.
