Freetown Made-in-Ghana Goods Exhibition Ends

A “Made-In-Ghana Goods” Exhibition organised by the Ghana High Commission, the Association of Ghana Industries and the Ghana Export Promotion Council ended yesterday, March 15, 2004 in Freetown.

The exhibition, which was one of the activities marking Ghana’s 47th Independence Anniversary was officially opened by His Excellency Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, President of the Republic of Ghana on March 6, 2004 and attracted hundreds of people.

About 30 Ghanaian companies participated in the fair. According to Mr. Andrew Lawson, Executive Director of the Association of Ghana Industries the exhibtion was one of the best solo Made in Ghana Goods exhibition the AGI had organised so far

Several of the participating companies were able to strike patnerships with their Sierra Leonean counterparts.

Goods exhibited ranged from textles to roofing sheets as well as electrical cables.

Ghana’s High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Kabral Blay-Amihere said that the fair should open windows of opportunity for greater trading and economic links between Sierra Leone and Ghana and said the Freetown Mission would continue to facilitate the process of advancing regional intergration through trade.

Commenting on the exhibition, Ambassador Daudi Mwakawago, the Special Representative of the United Nations’ Secretary General to Sierra Leone, praised Ghana for its impressive strides and said that the exhibition was a challenge to the people of Sierra Leone to move forward in the industrial and manufacturing sector.

Speaking at the special dinner dance to round off the week-long exhibition, Ambasador Mwakawago said that Ghana has since the days of Kwame Nkrumah offered leadership in Africa to the admiration of all.
