Free SHS will eradicate illiteracy in Muslim communities – Muslim leader

The Head of Finance at the Ghana Muslim Mission Youth (GMMY), Mr Ishaq Kyei Brobbey has urged Muslim youth to massively patronize government’s free SHS rolled out this week observing that it will help eradicate illiteracy from Muslim communities in Ghana.

He said this in a speech delivered at 50th anniversary celebration of Ghana Muslim Mission Youth (GMMY) held at the Islamic Senior High School at Ampabame

According to him, it is not wrong for a Muslim to acquire new knowledge aside the study of Arabic and Quran. “Prophet Mohammed (peace be onto him), charged every Muslim to seek for knowledge irrespective of where they find themselves. This clearly shows that, it is not wrong to study science, geography or any other field of academic studies. Muslims, need to take education very serious in order to help develop the nation and religion as well”, he explained.

Mr Ishaq Kyei Brobbey, advised the youth not to only rely on the study of the Quran but also understand that, in present age of Islam, Muslims contributed by developing ‘algebra’.

“The Muslim communities have contributed a lot towards world’s civilization hence our youths must consider that. This shows that, Muslims have done it before therefore I charge you to do same”.
