Free SHS: St Augustine’s Sec/Tech yet to receive foodstuffs – Headmaster

The St. Augustine’s Senior High Technical School in Charikpong in the Nadowli-Kaleo District is yet to receive their feeding as part of the ‘Free Senior High School Policy ‘though they have received the 20% of cash for perishable goods’.

The headmaster Mr. Kambotuu Francis Xavier said this when he was sharing the challenges the school is facing when the DCE for the Nadowli-Kaleo Hon. Kaherine T. Lankono visited the School to have first time experience of the implementation of the Free Senior High School policy.

Under the programme, first-year students who qualified to Senior High Schools will not be charged admission, library, science centre, computer laboratory, examination, and utility fees, among others.

But Mr. Xavier said they are yet to receive their share of foodstuffs for the first years of the school.

He said he school had requested for 250 students as vacancies available but the School Computerized Placement System has placed 277 students with 233 picking admission letters and 155 have reported to pursue various programmes in General Arts, Building Technology and Home Economics.

Mr. Xavier said the school is left without a good source of potable drinking water for the students, they will have to walk about a kilometer before they could get water for their usage. And has therefore appealed to the District Chief Executive to come to their aid.

The DCE commended the head teacher for his efforts of managing the first batch of Free SHS without government feeding.

She said the NPP government is committed to making the Free SHS policy sustainable as it will help the needy to educate their children.

Hon. Katherine took time to visit the students in their class rooms and admonished them to study hard for their relatives are looking up to them to make them and the government proud.
