Free Press editor fined 5 million cedis.

Three days after 2 prominent private press editors were jailed for contempt, another editor could be heading to jail for contempt of court. An Accra High Court today fined the suspended editor of the Free Press, Mr. Ato Sam 5 million cedis or in default, 21 days imprisonment. The court also awarded an amount of 2 million cedi cost against Tommy Thompson Books Limited, publishers of the Free Press, to be paid to the Minister of Local government, Mr. Kwame Ahwoi.

According to the judge, Mr. Justice P. K. Owusu-Sekyere, Mr. Ato Sam will go to jail if he fails to pay the fine by close of the day. The case is in connection with a contempt suit filed against the Free Press by Mr. Kwamena Ahwoi for libelling him and scandalising the courts.
