FREE COMPULSORY EDUCATION PACKAGE

The Ministry of education has embarked on programme to provide free, compulsory and universal basic education for all children of school-going age by the year 2005. The Director General of Ghana Education Service, Mr.. Solomon Obeng, stated this at the official opening of an education unit and a secondary-technical school build by the African Faith Tabernacle Church at Akyem Anyinam in the Eastern Region. Mr.. Obeng said the government alone cannot provide all the educational needs of the people in terms of infrastructure and materials. He therefore appealed to all Churches, NGOs and public spirited individuals to assist. A representative of the US embassy Mr.. Bruce Lohof, said last year, the embassy through its self help fund, supported more than 30 projects in the country to promote good health, clean water, sanitation and education. The leader of the African Faith Tabernacle Church, Prophet David Nkansah, commended the Ministry of Education, the US government and the district assembly for their assistance.
