Free breast cancer screening exercise for women in Adanwomase

Adanwomase (Ash), Jan 31, GNA – Breast Care International, a Kumasi-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and the Kwabre District Assembly on Sunday organised a free breast screening exercise for women and young girls at Adanwomase in the Kwabre district of Ashanti. The exercise formed part of the organisation’s outreach programme aimed at educating the women on symptoms and signs of breast cancer and the need for people affected to seek early treatment.

Dr (Mrs) Wiafe Addae, President of the Breast Care International, who led the team, said the target group of the exercise was women in rural communities who often do not have access to health facilities. She said even though breast cancer could not be completely cured, its early detection and treatment could prolong the lifespan of the affected person.

She appealed to other NGOs and philanthropists to support her organisation to enable it cater for more women in rural communities. At least 1,000 women in Adanwomase, Asonomaso, Nkwanta, Kasaam, Sarfo, Mmape and Bonwire were expected to benefit from the exercise.
