Frank Asmah gets the nod as KEEA DCE

Elmina, (C/R), June 7 GNA- Members of the Komenda-Edina -Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) District Assembly, on Tuesday endorsed Mr George Frank Asmah, a 48-year-old journalist as the new District Chief Executive.

He polled 40 of the 52 votes, representing 77 per cent. Mr Justice K.K. Acquaye, a Supervising High Court Judge in Cape Coast, administered the oath of office to Mr Asmah and 15 new government appointees of the assembly.

Last week Thursday, the President revoked the membership of all but one of the government appointed members of the assembly. Mr Asmah, who until his appointment was the news editor of the Ghanaian Times and Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association, said his appointment was a victory for democracy and the progress and development of the district.

He called on members of the assembly to unite for the progress and development of the district.

Mr Asmah pledged to continue with the good administration of his predecessor.

He said he would ensure the implementation of the Elmina 2015 Development Strategy, and go beyond the traditional sources of funds for the Assembly by marketing the development potentials of the area to non-governmental organisations and other donors.

“I will do everything possible to settle the chieftaincy dispute in the area as well as evolve measures for poverty reduction.”

The former District Chief Executive, now the Deputy Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur appealed for teamwork to facilitate the work of the assembly.

Mr Frank Arthur, the Presiding Member, urged the members to use their expertise to fight their “common enemy”, which he identified as poverty”. 7 June 05
