Francisca Ashitey competent for GBC job – Kate Addo

The acting Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) Francisca Ashietey-Odunton will require “steel” and the support of her colleagues at the state broadcaster in order to succeed.

That’s according to her former colleague and acting director of public affairs at Parliament Kate Addo.

GBC is notorious for the short tenure of its director generals, fueling fears that Ashietey-Odunton, if confirmed, may not last at the job. There are also concerns that she may face inter opposition from her colleagues.

Speaking to Bola Ray on Starr Chat Wednesday, the first potential female director of public affairs for the legislative body said her former colleague is prepared for the job.

“…Apart from the steel that I’ve mentioned she needs to survive her new position; just like other companies, she also requires goodwill from the staff, without that it, will be difficult for her. She is a good team player, I know she will succeed,” Miss Addo stated.

Mrs. Ashietey-Odunton was recently appointed by the National Media Commission (NMC) as the acting head of GBC following an impasse which resulted in its substantive boss Major Albert Don-Chebe (rtd), proceeding on his two-year outstanding leave.
