Bawku (U/E) Aug. 26 GNA – Fourteen thousand families in the Bawku Municipality have received food support from the World Food Programme.
Some of the food items distributed to the beneficiaries include cooking oil, sugar, and flour, and eleven thousand breast feeding mothers and pregnant women and 3,000 children are benefiting from the support.
Mr Douglas Nyaaba, Municipal Food Nutrition Officer in charge of the Bawku Health Directorate, disclosed this to the GNA on Friday during the food rationing exercise.
Mr Nyaaba said the aim of the exercise was to support mothers and children who are most vulnerable in the society.
He said at this time of the year, most families had invested on their farms and had little food to feed their families until harvest time and so there was the need for the exercise to supplement their little resources.
At the Urban West Clinic in Bawku, Mrs Martha Panada told the GNA that 350 beneficiaries were receiving the food items.
Mrs Panada appealed to the beneficiaries not sell the items but should use it for the benefit of their children. Miss Sandra Abangiba, a community health nurse at the clinic, asked the beneficiaries to keep their environment clean in order not to contract diseases.
She commended the World Food Programme for collaborating with the Ministry of Health to provide quality health care to the people in the area.
