Four years jail for steal mobile phones

Kumasi, Oct. 1, GNA – A circuit court in Kumasi, has sentenced a scrap vendor to four years imprisonment for stealing five mobile phones, phone cards and GH¢550 from a couple.

Aziz Seidu, who had been on the police wanted list, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Police Chief Inspector Mary Nana Adwoa Affanyi told the Court presided over by Mr. Justice Adjei Frimpong that Kwame Anobil was an auto electrician, and his wife Aminatu Rashid, phone cards seller. Prosecution said that the couple lived at Old Tafo, the very place, the convict also resided.

Insp Affanyi said at dawn, on September 15, Rashida, left the house to say prayers at the Old Tafo Mosque whilst the husband was asleep. Prosecution said when Rashida returned home and noticed that their room was ransacked she woke her husband up.

Insp Affanyi said when the couple noticed that their phones, phone cards and cash had been stolen they report the matter to the police and Seidu was arrested at Krofrom Columbia, a suburb of Kumasi, known to be a den of criminals. Anobil’s Motorolla and three other cell phones as well as a quantity of phone cards were retrieved from the convict’s room during a search. 1 Oct 09
