Four killed in galamsey pit collapse

Four persons have died after a galamsey pit collapsed on them at Prestea Ankobra in the Prestea Huni-Valley District of the Western region.

The incident which happened Tuesday night also left two other people critically injured.

Ayoni Olani sustained pelvic and shoulder fracture and has been referred to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital while the other one Emmanuel Yeboah had mild injuries and responding to treatment at the Prestea Government Hospital, Doctors say.

According to reports, the six people had gone to their galamsey pit to dig for gold but were unlucky that day when the pit they were mining in caved in on them.

The deceased are Paa Boadu, 36, from Abura Dunkwa in the Central Region, Doman Ballana 37 from Sankana near Wa in the Upper West Region and other two whose names were given as Sulley and Nkoalla.

The lifeless bodies have since been deposited at the Prestea Government Hospital.
