Four expectant women die due to lack of transport

Hiawu-Besease (Ash), Nov 08, GNA – Four pregnant women from Hiawu-Besease in the Atwima Nwabiagya District died in labour as a result of the lack of a vehicle to convey them to hospital. This followed the withdrawal of vehicles plying the three- kilometer Sepaase Junction-Hiawu-Besease road as a result of the continuous rainfall in recent times.

Mr Kingsley Opoku, Hiawu-Besease secretary to the unit committee, told the GNA that sick people are carried in hammocks to Mfensi, a distance of about 15 kilometres to board vehicles to hospitals. He said teachers staying outside the town could not attend school and for the past three months the town had been without electricity. Mr Moses Ampong, the Hiawu-Besease Unit committee Chairman, commended Mr Ofori Donkor, the Atwima Nwabiagya District Chief Executive, for providing the town with 100 bags of cement for the completion of their market and the renovation of the primary school.
