Four drivers fined for various traffic offences

Kumasi, Sept. 22, GNA – Four commercial vehicle drivers were on Wednesday fined a total of five million cedis by a Kumasi circuit court for various traffic offences.

The culprits who pleaded guilty will serve a total of 56 months imprisonment in hard labour in default.

They were charged with failing to wear seat belts, driving without fire extinguishers and warning triangles, failing to provide owners addresses on their vehicles, driving without licenses, failing to renew driving licenses and driving without wipers.

Newman Nuhu was fined two million cedis or three years prison sentence in default, Kwasi Iddrisu was fined one million cedis or in default to serve 12 months prison sentence, while Moro Abdulai was fined 1.5 million cedis or 12 months jail term in default and David Acheampong was fined 500,000 cedis or go to jail for six months in default. Police Chief Inspector Regina Kesewaa told the court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that police personnel arrested all the culprits on Wednesday morning during routine check on the Sepe-Buokrom-Airport Roundabout road.

She said when the drivers were stopped and their vehicles examined, they were found not to be in possession of the items and were consequently charged.
