Four drivers convicted for parking at unauthorised places

Four commercial vehicle drivers have been fined three hundred Ghana cedis each by the Fomena Magistrate Court for parking at unauthorised places contrary to the bye-laws of the Adansi North District Assembly.

They are to serve a five-month imprisonment each in default.

The drivers are James Amankwaa with sprinter bus No. AS 3812 -12, Albert Adjei with vehicle No. AW 8304 -12, Kwame Nyame, with vehicle No.GS 7292 Y and Michael Afful with a Hyundai Grace vehicle No. Aw 966 -14.

Prosecuting before the court presided over by Mr Alex Fiamudzie , Police Superintendent Yaw Obeng Asubonteng said the Assembly had spent funds to create a parking lot for drivers who ply their trade in the area, but in most cases the drivers refuse to comply and park anywhere because of the rush for passengers.

Mr Asubonteng added that by the action of these recalcitrant drivers a lot of accidents continue to occur in the area.

The presiding judge warned that in future any driver brought before the court for failing to respect the laws of the Assembly would receive heavier punishment, since by their attitude they could cause damage to human lives and also deny the Assembly of mobilising the expected revenue for development.
