Four Districts receive vehicles to monitor projects

Tamale, March 8, GNA – The Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment (MLGRDE), has presented four vehicles valued at GH¢74,000 to four district assemblies in the Northern Region to assist them in the implementation of the Northern Region Poverty Reduction Programme (NORPREP) supported activities.

The beneficiary districts include; Yendi Municipal Assembly, East Gonja District Assembly, West Mamprusi District Assembly and Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Assembly.

Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, Northern Regional Minister who presented the keys of the vehicles to the district chief executives of the beneficiary districts said they were among the first eight districts to benefit from the Community Development Fund.

He said the eight districts shared between them sub-projects that included 73 boreholes, 4 dams/dug outs, 52 educational facilities, 370 household toilets and a storage facility.

He said the presentation was the first of the vehicles to be given to the districts and expressed the hope that the next four districts would receive theirs by the end of the month, adding that the ten remaining districts would be taken care of in this year’s budget.

Alhaji Idris urged the district chief executives to use the vehicles to intensify the monitoring and reporting on projects to get them completed on schedule and also urged them to regularly service and maintain the vehicles.

“I hope no district will give me cause to withdraw them for gross abuse”, Alhaji Idris warned. Mr Sulemana Nabila, West Mamprusi District Chief Executive, on behalf of his colleagues commended the government for providing then with the vehicles and promised to put them to good use. 08 March 08
