Three persons died on the spot and the fourth on the way to the hospital when a Rhino KIA truck carrying chippings ran into some kiosks at Begoro Lorry Park on Sunday.
Six people sustained injuries.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Koforidua on Wednesday, the Eastern Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Police Service, Chief Superintendent James Sarfo- Peprah, said the truck was carrying chippings from Apaah Junction and heading towards Begoro.
The driver of the truck, Ben Antwi, 40, stopped at a spot near the Begoro Market for a few minutes and then decided to move the vehicle, but it failed to start.
Consequently, he asked some young men around the area to push the vehicle to enable him to start it.
Mr. Sarfo-Peprah said in the cause of pushing the truck, though the engine did not start, the vehicle moved very fast because it was descending. In the process, it ran into three kiosks at the lorry station killing three of the occupants.
Mr. Sarfo-Peprah said one of the injured whose name was given as Yaw Asare, 52, died on the way to the Hospital.
He expressed concern about the spate of road accidents in the Region in spite of all the road safety education and urged motorists to be cautious about traffic regulations to bring the situation under control.**
